72 YEARS AGO ... THE FABULOUS ANDREWS SISTERS STILL SWINGIN' TODAY
Yep, three young girls from Minnesota who were an American institution - especially in the forties and most memorably during WWII. They performed until 1967 (after a 2 year split in 1954-56) when LaVerne's voice was silenced after succumbing to cancer.
They were: Maxene, LaVerne and Patty - who was the youngest, most energetic, most talented, and last surviving Andrews sister until she passed away last January (somehow I missed it) at the age of 94.
One of their most memorable hits fom 1941:
The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from Company B

I love it. Watch the part where Patty licks her finger and touches that "hot" horn at 1:09.
*Incidentally. Eight to the bar musically means eight beats to the measure.
Too too too toot'ly atta toot'ly atta toot toot he blows it eight to the bar.
